This Unit of Work meets the learning outcomes found in the music syllabus of Stage 4 music. This Unit of Work will cover the topic of Film Music and focus on film themes e.g Jaws, Mission Impossible, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lion King etc. This Unit of Work will focus on Toy Story You’ve Got A Friend In Me composed by Randy Newman.pirates-of-THE-caribbean-logo lkse02_1024 UnknownUnknown-1

Over the next few weeks the students will cover two music concepts Tone Colour and Dynamics and Expressive Techniques, this will help students to further understand how themes are created and how the feel and hook of the song works in capturing the audience it is intended for. The music concepts will be covered over three learning experiences such as Performing, Listening and Composition, each learning experience will consist of major assessments with one small activity to be completed before the assessment, this is done to assess the student’s progression in class and to determine all outcomes are being met suit the needs of each student at all levels.

Prior learning for this Unit of Work is for students to have experience in playing melodic instruments and percussion instruments to outlined music pieces. Students are to have also learnt to distinguish the different concepts of music to their own abilities.

Students will be assessed on their learning of experiences and outcomes, these will be listed below.

Performing: students are to develop the knowledge and understanding of music concepts through performing which will develop their music skill through self- expression and ensemble techniques.

4.2 performs music using different forms of notation and different types of technology across a broad range of musical styles.

4.3 performs music demonstrating solo and/or ensemble awareness. 

4.12 demonstrates a developing confidence and willingness to engage in performing, composing and listening experiences 

Listening: Students will develop knowledge, understanding of the music concepts through listening which will develop their aural awareness in all aspects of social, cultural and historical aspects.

4.7 demonstrates an understanding of musical concepts through listening, observing, responding, discriminating, analysing, discussing and recording musical ideas.

4.8 demonstrates an understanding of musical concepts through aural identification and discussion of the features of a range of repertoire.

4.10 identifies the use of technology in the music selected for study, appropriate to the musical context 

4.12 demonstrates a developing confidence and willingness to engage in performing, composing and listening experiences 

Composition: Students will develop knowledge and understanding of music concepts through composing which will enhance their musical creation and self expression.

4.4 demonstrates an understanding of musical concepts through exploring, experimenting, improvising, organising, arranging and composing 

4.5 notates compositions using traditional and/or non-traditional notation 

4.12 demonstrates a developing confidence and willingness to engage in performing, composing and listening experiences
